9 Vacation Destinations to Escape the Winter Blues

I think we can all agree, it’s been a long winter. Some parts of the Midwest saw the lowest temperatures they’ve seen in decades this season, and cities like Chicago broke records in January for being colder than Antarctica, Alaska AND the North Pole. Our winter woes should be behind us in a few weeks time, but for many of us, Spring can’t come soon enough! If you feel like you can’t spend another day bundled up in 20 degree or below weather, here are nine sunny vacation destinations you can escape to in the meantime (at least on your Instagram feed).

Antigua

This Caribbean paradise has a beach for every day of the year. No, really - Antigua has 365 beaches, literally a different beach to visit for every day of the year. White sand and sapphire blue water as far as the eye can see. Need we say more?

Barbados

Famous for its white sand beaches and turquoise, crystalline waters, you can travel to Barbados to wind down during the day or turn up at night. From local rum shops to fancy nightclubs, there’s no shortage of things to get into after the sun goes down on this island.

Belize

The perfect combination of beauty and adventure, Belize offers scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, bird watching, and the largest cave system in Central America, to name a few highlights. Chances are you’ll mark at least one item off your bucket list during your stay.

Cartagena

Colorful, historic, and full of culture, it will be hard to go back home after visiting Cartagena. Walking through Old Town will make you feel like you’ve been transported back in time (in a good way), and if you’re a seafood lover, you’ll feel like you stepped right into heaven.

Hawaii

A classic vacation destination, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Hawaii. With natural beauty for days, simply enjoying a sunrise or sunset on any of Hawaii’s islands is worth the airfare. We know you’ll get plenty of rest and relaxation here, but would you be down for an adrenaline rush with a caged shark diving experience like this traveler? As they say, a life without risk is not worth living!

Jamaica

Sandy beaches, rushing waterfalls, coral gardens, lush mountains - this small nation is a Caribbean jewel. Let the island riddims soothe you as you partake in the authentic flavors that Jamaica is known for. Jerk, yams, plantains, stew… is your mouth watering yet?

St. Lucia

St. Lucia has one of the most photographed coastlines on the planet, featuring The Pitons, a pair of gigantic volcanic peaks that almost look unreal in person. St. Lucia is also the home of the world’s only “drive-in volcano”, which is a must see.

Sardinia

This Italian island is the second largest island in the Mediterranean sea, and is so breathtaking that you might think you’re dreaming. Snow-white sand (yes, that white) and water in every shade of blue, Sardinia is still somewhat of an undiscovered gem.

Cancún

A go-to destination for beaches, honeymoons, and nightlife, Cancún has been a top vacation spot for decades. And it’s no wonder, with all the unique experiences it has to offer. World class museums, a diverse culinary scene, and underwater caves will have you coming back for more.
